Standard DBT Skills Training Classes
*Currently accepting participants for the Distress Tolerance module, starting 11/7*
In standard DBT, skills training is focused on increasing your overall capability and effectiveness through learning life skills. There are four core skills sets taught:
|
At Wise Mind Collective, classes rotate through the skills like so:
1 week orientation, 2 weeks mindfulness, 6 weeks distress tolerance; 1 week orientation, 2 weeks mindfulness, 7 weeks emotion regulation; 1 week orientation, 2 weeks mindfulness, 5 weeks interpersonal effectiveness.
That rotation takes about 6 months, then the cycle repeats; while you may be committed to a year of skills training, we ask for participants to commit to one module at a time. The classes are open for new folks to join at the beginning of each module. After the first 4 weeks, the classes are closed until the next module. Once you have gone through the orientation, you do not need to repeat it.

- We start with Mindfulness at the beginning of each class module (and discuss it throughout) because it is the foundation of the rest of the skill sets. You can read more about here on the Behavioral Tech website.
- Our skills training adheres to Dr. Marsha Linehan’s researched and developed model, and our skills training leaders have been trained through Linehan’s DBT skills training program through Psychwire. Visit here for more information about that training.
- We use Dr. Marsha Linehan’s DBT Skills Training Handouts and Worksheets, 2nd Ed. in the class; participants are required to have a copy of this workbook. We can provide a digital copy upon request.
- Finally, class members will need to have an individual provider (e.g., a therapist, psychiatrist, dietician) with whom they check in on a regular, individual basis, and who is willing to fill out our Individual Provider Agreement and Crisis Plan document prior to class admittance.
